a little about me

Growing up around public safety and legal representation, I wanted to give back in my own way.  Starting Embolden Counseling, PLLC has been a goal of mine for years and I am very excited to have a place where the community can come and seek help and guidance from a safe place.

I graduated from the University of Mount Olive with a BA in Clinical Psychology. From there I went on to Graduate school at Campbell University with a focus on Community Mental Health Counseling.

I’ve been practicing since 2015 and opened the doors of Embolden Counseling, PLLC in 2023.

When I’m not in sessions, you can find me spending time with my husband, our son, Noah and our black lab Theodore.  We enjoy spending as much time outside as possible whether that’s exercising, hiking, going to Universal Studios or Disney; I just enjoy the sunshine!

MY NAME IS HANNAH

MSW, LCSW-A

a little about me

Hello! My name is Rachel Hewitt, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Associate. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Harding University in Arkansas and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Radford University in Virginia.

Dedicated to healing, my focus is on providing compassionate, non-judgmental support that helps individuals and families in overcoming challenges and improving well-being. A personalized approach is used, combining various evidence based methods to fit each client’s unique needs. This may include using techniques from several therapeutic models: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Strengths-Based Therapy, and Family Systems Therapy.

I have clinical experience across various settings, including a psychiatric hospital for children, community services for school-aged children and families, and counseling services for all age groups. Specialization in trauma-informed care is provided for all clients struggling with challenges. My therapeutic approach incorporates a deep understanding of developmental psychology when working with children and adolescents, ensuring that interventions are developmentally appropriate and often include play therapy techniques to facilitate healing and growth.

I provide support to individuals facing various challenges, including life transitions, stressful family dynamics, divorce, chronic illness, as well as emotional struggles such as depression, anxiety, grief and loss. My approach integrates body based somatic techniques and expressive art therapies to address these concerns holistically. I also provide Christian counseling based on Biblical values based on client preferences.

Do you find it challenging to cope with the different stressors in your life? Are you looking for someone to come alongside you and help you or your child work through difficulties?

I believe there is high value in the therapeutic relationship and feel that it is a collaborative effort between the therapist and client. My passion is to help those who are struggling to find peace and joy while learning practical ways of navigating life. Helping others find hope is my favorite part of what I do! Together we will work on building the skills to empower you to meet your goals.

I am passionate about working with individuals facing past traumas and current stressors, ranging from low self-esteem and body image distress to life transitions and identity concerns. I pride myself on taking a systems-based approach to care and understanding the impact our context has on our abilities to cope with and manage what life throws our way. I incorporate elements of several evidence-based practices in my treatment approach including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Narrative approaches. I also aim to incorporate elements of mindfulness-based strategies and techniques into my work, and am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I am passionate about taking a person-centered and trauma-informed approach to care to enable you to feel safe within the therapeutic environment and empowered to reach your goals.
Outside of work, I love to engage in reading, spend time exploring nature, engage in yoga, and spend time with my friends, family, and my three cats.

a little about me

The road of Life is full of curves. Sometimes, you need a safe and open space to get your bearings. I’m Austin, currently a Licensed Clinical Social Work Associate, and I offer a calm and supportive environment for individuals 8 and older to navigate the curves and challenges. I believe in an eclectic and holistic approach to therapy that draws on the techniques and knowledge of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play-Based Techniques, and a Client-Centered Approach. We’ll work together to develop coping skills, identify personal strengths, and build the resilience to overcome personal challenges.
Here’s an example of what we may do in session:
● Creative Expression: We’ll explore thoughts and feelings through art, writing, and other creative outlets.
● Mindfulness Activities: We’ll engage in activities such as guided meditation, breathing techniques, and relaxation exercises to manage anxiety and stress.
● Strengths-based Approach: Hone in on the strengths and traits that make you passionate about helping people find the light in dark times and making the changes they feel necessary for a more fulfilling life.
A little about me:
Including my undergraduate degree in psychology and time working for a therapeutic group home, I have an understanding of how to work with individuals going through difficult times and can draw on brain/body functioning to increase awareness of how you are impacted during these times. uniquely you and how to use them to confront challenges. I have experience with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, and life transitions. I provide a space for youth and teens, young and older adults, as well as LGBTQIA+ individuals.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time out in nature (with my dogs!), playing video
games (the Dark Souls series is a personal favorite!), engaging in philosophy, and creating art (whether it’s a painting, poem, sketch, or song.)
Hopefully my bio gives you an idea of what to expect when working with me and some idea of who I am. If you would like to schedule an intake, reach out today. I also offer 15 minute phone consultations to see if we are a good fit for each other. I am here to support you on your own life path and to help you implement the changes you want.

Meet Austin Andrews

MSW, LCSW-A

a little about me

I’m a current graduate student studying clinical mental health counseling at Liberty University. I received my bachelor’s in psychology at a beautiful school not far from here, Campbell University! I’ve lived in the area
and surrounding towns all my life. Sunni Sky’s still holds the title for best local ice-cream in my heart! A few things I enjoy are reading, shopping, and spending time with loved ones. If I have any free time, you can find me on the back porch drinking iced coffee with a good book in hand, soaking up the sunshine.

Becoming a therapist is a dream I’ve had for a long time. I’ve always enjoyed helping people and the mental health field was where I felt I could do the most good. I have endured my own struggles and I know healing is not always easy. I believe that genuine connection and a little bit of hope can go a long way. I am fully committed to providing a safe space and being the cheerleader that you need in your corner. Even though I am still learning, I hope I can walk alongside you and help guide you through life’s chaos.
